Description
The original statue in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome depicts the Prince of the Apostles in bronze, holding the keys of Heaven in his left hand and bestowing a blessing with his right. Following an ancient custom, pilgrims who visit the Basilica customarily touch or kiss Saint Peter’s right foot and ask for a blessing. Over the centuries, millions of people have kissed and touched the statue, leaving the right foot of the original statue worn down.
