Description
Our Norbertine priest, St. Herman Joseph (c. 1150-1241) wrote the first known hymn in honor of the Sacred Heart. Among the beautiful stanzas of his poem are the following:
Hail! Heart of the Most High King!/With joyful heart my praise I bring./As you desire me to embrace,/I beg of you this single grace:/That I may speak to you.
Heart of Jesus, Rose sublime,/Trinitarian love manifested in time,/Graft my bud to you full bloom./Wound and renew it with your perfume./Can one suffer in loving you?
